This is a fresco that decorated the lararium in a service atrium of the House of the centenary at Pompeii.
Bacchus is shown on the left covered completely by huge grapes. To the right is a tall mountain identified as the Volcano Vesuvius before the AD 79 eruption, with its slopes covered in vines.
The garlands, the birds and the snake below crawling towards the altar with an egg are part of a common repertoire
of lararia decoration
